Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a nonsurgical cosmetic injection approved by the Food and Drug Administration to relax the appearance of crow’s feet and frown lines in between your eyebrows. Botox temporarily reduces wrinkles without surgery. Dr. Armstrong may also use the cosmetic injection to reduce the appearance of bands around your neck and lines on your forehead as well as scrunching of the chin. Botox is used for medical purposes as well.

Migraines are treated with Botox as well as hyperhidrosis (sweating) and the masseter muscle for TMJ. With Botox:

  • No sedation or anesthesia is needed.
  • Affects underlying muscles (as opposed to the skin’s surface or skin’s sub-layer the way peels do).
  • Reduces horizontal creases in the forehead. Reduces frown lines.
  • Minimizes the look of crows’ feet and laugh lines.
  • Effects are customizable.
  • Some patients report they no longer get migraine headaches.

How does Botox change my look?

Botox smooths lines and wrinkles to give you a more youthful look by targeting the repeated muscle contractions that cause the skin to crease and create your crow’s feet and frown lines. It works by blocking the signal from the nerve that otherwise would tell the muscle to contract and therefore relaxing the muscle.

With her keen eye for beauty and precision, Dr. Armstrong makes you look fresh and vital, not frozen, allowing you to keep using your natural facial expressions to convey your feelings.

Common areas for Botox treatment are:

  • Frown or Worry Lines
  • Periorbital Wrinkles (Crow’s Feet)
  • Bunny Lines
  • Brow Lift
  • Brow Asymmetry
  • Drooping Mouth Corners
  • Enlarged Masseter (Jaw) Muscle
  • Vertical Lip Wrinkles
  • Platysma Stranding (“Neck Banding”)
  • Chest Wrinkles and Vertical Lines
  • Hyperhidrosis – Severe Underarm Sweating

Do the injections hurt?

Like other injections, Botox causes a quick pinching type of pain. To reduce discomfort, Dr. Armstrong may use ice to numb the treatment area or a topical numbing agent. As a skilled aesthetics physician with an eye for beauty, Dr. Armstrong knows precisely where to place the injections to give you the desired look, so treatment takes only a few minutes.

What happens after Botox treatment?

After you’ve completed treatment, you can go right back to your normal day. Because Botox injections take just a few minutes, you can have them done during your lunch break. The only restrictions Dr. Armstrong recommends are that you avoid strenuous exercise for at least two hours after the procedure and that you do not rub or massage the treatment area.

Botox keeps you looking fresh and young for up to three to nine months. Once you notice the effects wearing off, call one of the offices to schedule another session. Repeated Botox injections thin out the muscle under your skin, allowing subsequent treatments to last longer.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is a safe and effective cosmetic treatment, and millions of people have enjoyed the anti-aging benefits of the injection. Dr. Armstrong, however, takes a conservative approach to Botox treatment to ensure your safety.
