While skin rejuvenation techniques can improve the look and tone of your skin, they might not be able to bring back firmness. Until very recently, the only way you could lift your jowls or brows was with a face-lift. Aesthetics specialist Jennifer Armstrong, MD, with offices in Newport Beach, Brentwood, and Fullerton, California, has found a revolutionary technique using threads to give your face a lift and a more youthful look without invasive surgery. Threads Q & A

What are threads?

Threads are a cosmetic surgery tool that Dr. Armstrong uses to lift your skin and rejuvenate your look. The technique is often called a thread lift. These threads not only refresh your look but also stimulate your body’s natural healing powers and amp up production of collagen, which is the protein that gives your skin its strength and elasticity.

Dr. Armstrong uses a thread lift technique from South Korea called MINT Lift®.

What is MINT Lift?

MINT Lift is a thread-lifting technique that uses a unique suture thread, polydioxanone (PDO), and durable barbs, which act like hooks, to hold your lift in place. PDO is biodegradable, but it holds your skin in place for up to six months.

During the months your sutures are in place, your body is doing everything it can to heal the area, including a significant production of collagen, which increases your skin’s strength and firmness for a long-lasting youthful look.

What areas can benefit from a thread lift?

Dr. Armstrong offers the thread lift to improve the look of a number of areas on your face and neck. The most common procedures include:

  • Brow lift
  • Upper and lower face-lift
  • Jowls and nasolabial fold lift
  • Neck lift

Dr. Armstrong is an aesthetics expert and artist and can create an amazing look using her threading technique.

What can I expect during a thread lift?

The MINT Lift is a minimally invasive procedure, and Dr. Armstrong does it in the office. To ease any discomfort, she begins your treatment by numbing the area. She then uses a special needle to insert the threads, which lift the skin and anchor it in place.

You may experience some soreness after the procedure, but you should be able to resume most of your usual activities after treatment. Dr. Armstrong will go over what to expect during and after your thread lift so you can prepare as needed.

Treatment time varies, but a thread lift may take as little as 30 minutes. You could even get a non-surgical facelift with threads on your lunch break.
